Alfie Sheppard

Statement:

My work is an attempt to evoke isolation, non-permanence, precariousness, the infinite and the charge of the present moment.

Some of my themes have a vacancy or coldness. Conversely they also convey a sense of space imbued with peacefulness.

I am interested in how the cultural and physical evolution of humanity impacts on and is affected by our urban landscapes.

I have used the medium of paper for its lack of fixed connotations, offering as it does a blankness full of potential. Paper defines transience and parodies the aspirations of consumer society. It is intrinsically fragile and fleeting, and for me it embodies the sociological transition from industrial to post - industrial society.

My work could be described as a stage set void of humanity but full of presence, where temporal scenarios are gone as quickly as they were made. Within this liminal space I hope to find beauty.
